Privacy Policy

Nour is an independent project operated by Ahmed Muhammed Elsaid. You can reach us using the contact details at the end of this policy.

Nour has no user accounts, no sign-up and no advertising, and the mobile app and browser extension contain no analytics, crash-reporting or advertising libraries. We do not build a profile of you, and we do not sell or share personal data. The only information that leaves your device is what a feature needs to work: approximate coordinates for prayer times, and the standard technical details (such as your IP address) that every internet request carries. Each is described below.

Your settings — such as your chosen location for prayer times, calculation method, adhan and reminder preferences, theme, reading progress, and audio playback state — are saved locally on your device (in your browser's local storage, the extension's local storage, or the app's on-device storage). This data leaves your device only as described under "Location and prayer times" below, and is not visible to us. Clearing the app's data, uninstalling the app, removing the extension, or clearing the site's data in your browser deletes it.

Content such as the Quran text, reciter and radio lists, adhkar and playlists comes from our own service at nour-platform-web.vercel.app, hosted by Vercel. Like any web server, it receives your IP address and standard request metadata (for example the requested address, app version and language). To protect the service from abuse, a short-lived request counter keyed by your IP address is kept with our rate-limiting provider, Upstash, and expires automatically within a few minutes. We do not use this information to identify or profile you, and your location is never sent to our service.

Prayer times depend on where you are. You can type or pick a city yourself, or let Nour detect your location once using your device's location service (the Android app asks for the location permission, precise or approximate, only when you choose this; the website and extension use the browser's location prompt). Your coordinates are stored only on your device. To give accurate prayer times, Nour sends your coordinates rounded to two decimal places (roughly 1 km), together with your calculation method, madhab and the month requested, directly from your device to the Aladhan prayer-times API (api.aladhan.com), which also receives your IP address. If that request fails, prayer times are calculated on your device instead. Nour never reads your location in the background; if you have granted location access, the app may check it while open to suggest updating your city when you travel.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data, and nothing is shared for advertising. To provide its features, the Nour website, app and extension connect directly to the services below. Each receives your IP address as part of the connection and handles it under its own privacy policy.

Aladhan prayer-times API (api.aladhan.com): your coordinates rounded to about 1 km, your calculation method and madhab, and the month requested — see "Location and prayer times" above.

Quran recitation audio (everyayah.com, mirrors.quranicaudio.com, cdn.islamic.network, and the mp3quran.net servers): the recitation file you play.

Live radio streams (qurango.net, radioca.st, zeno.fm and its delivery network surfernetwork.com, mp3islam.com): the station you tune in to.

Playlist and adhkar audio and images we host ourselves (our file storage on Cloudflare R2): the file you play or view.

Vercel (hosting for nour-platform-web.vercel.app and the website) and Upstash (rate limiting): as described under "Network requests".

Expo (mobile app only): when the app starts, it asks Expo's update service (u.expo.dev) whether a newer version of the app's code is available, sending the app version, platform, update channel, and a random identifier the update library creates for this installation, which is not linked to you. If a downloaded update fails to start, the error message is sent too, so the app can fall back to its previous version.

Embedded players (website only): some pages embed audio from SoundCloud or amgadsamir.com; those players load from the provider and are subject to its own policy and cookies.

The Nour Android app asks only for what its features need:

Location (precise or approximate): only when you choose to detect your city for prayer times and the qibla direction. You can decline and pick a city yourself.

Notifications: to show the adhan, prayer, adhkar, Surah Al-Kahf and before-prayer reminders, and the audio player controls.

Alarms and reminders (exact alarms): so the adhan and reminders fire at the exact time, and are re-scheduled after the phone restarts or the app updates.

Display over other apps: optional, for the floating reminder bubble shown over other apps at adhkar and Al-Kahf reminder time. You can decline it and still receive normal notifications.

Foreground service and keeping the device awake: to keep Quran recitation, radio and the adhan playing while the screen is off, with a visible notification while playing.

Nour does not access your contacts, photos or files, camera, microphone, or accounts.

The Nour browser extension requests a small set of permissions strictly to provide its features: "alarms" and "notifications" schedule and display the adhan, prayer reminders, and dhikr and salawat reminders; "offscreen" (Chrome) or "tabs" (Firefox) plays audio; "storage" saves your preferences on your device; "geolocation" detects your city for prayer times if you choose to; "idle" checks whether your screen is locked so a reminder voice clip is not played to an empty room; it is read only when a reminder is due and never stored; and host access to nour-platform-web.vercel.app fetches content. The extension also contacts the prayer-time and audio services listed under "Sharing and third parties". None of these permissions are used to collect your personal data.

The Nour website uses privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics (Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights) that measure page performance and traffic without cookies and without identifying individual visitors. The mobile app and browser extension include no analytics and no advertising, and use no advertising identifier.

Data saved on your device stays there until you change it, clear the app's or browser's data, uninstall the app, or remove the extension — any of which deletes it completely. Because Nour has no accounts and keeps no user records on its servers, there is no stored data about you for us to delete. Our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical request logs under its own retention policy, and rate-limit counters expire within minutes. Nour is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new "last updated" date.
